Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 23, 2024 — The Sharing Group, parent company of sharing initiatives MyWheels, Mijndomein and Hegg Energy, has expanded its stake in shared mobility provider Drop Mobility to a majority share. After the initial investment, both parties concluded that the growth potential of the startup can be unleashed more quickly by intensifying the collaboration. With the support of The Sharing Group, Drop Mobility wants to increase the number of shared bicycles for businesses in the Brainport area in Eindhoven in the short term, after 1,000 e-bikes were installed for ASML.

Drop Mobility and The Sharing Group started working together in 2022, when the investor acquired a minority stake in the startup. A name change followed for Drop Mobility and the startup shifted focus from public shared scooters to electric shared bicycles with docking stations for businesses. With success; in on average 17,000 rides per month, more than 100,000 kilometers are covered on Drop e-bikes, enough to cycle around the world more than twice.

Drop Mobility’s customers consist of companies and organizations that want to offer a sustainable mobility solution to customers, members or visitors, such as large business parks and campuses. Drop Mobility not only supplies the e-bikes, but also software to enable rental. Customers therefore do not have to manage any bicycle keys, but instead rely on an app that, just like the e-bikes and docking stations, can be completely personalized for the brand.

Brainport Eindhoven
The Sharing Group also supports Drop Mobility with knowledge and expertise from the market. Together, the companies want to further expand their business offering. Starting in Brainport Eindhoven, where 1,000 Drop Mobility e-bikes are currently in use.

We are now focusing on the mobility challenges of densely populated areas, where a shortage of parking spaces and grid congestion mean that cars do not always offer the right solution. We are proving this in Eindhoven, by working with companies to provide the ‘last mile’ of their employees and members with e-bikes. Together with The Sharing Group, we are going to look for synergies between the various companies within the group,” says founder of Drop Mobility Teun Verschuren, who, like his co-founders, will keep on leading in their own company as entrepreneurs.

With the majority share, Drop Mobility is now part of The Sharing Group and the startup can count itself among the list of companies with a focus on sharing, such as MyWheels, Mijndomein, EnergyZero, HomeZero, Hegg Energy and shared cargo bike provider Cargoroo.
